Lower Level Courses are designed to provide you with a foundation for future study in the United States. Instruction is interactive, giving you the opportunity to receive individualized attention and optimize your learning.
Upper Level Courses are designed to hone your academic skills for the rigors of undergraduate or graduate coursework. Program participants learn how to read and critically assess academic texts, communicate effectively in writing and speech, and prepare for the SAT or GRE or GMAT test. The program also includes TOEFL or IELTS test preparation classes and comprehensive university admissions advising
No. The Academy provides instruction for all learners, from beginning to advanced, and will determine your level of English proficiency when you start the program.
The Form I-20 is included in your admission packet which is mailed to you 3 to 5 business days after you submit your completed application. Admission packets are sent via express mail. International express mail takes 3 to 5 business days to arrive.
There is no deadline to apply to USC International Academy. You are advised to apply as early as possible to ensure the student visa is secured in time.
100+ USC master’s programs offer conditional admission to students who meet the academic qualifications for admission but who do not yet have sufficient proficiency in English.

If you are an excellent student and are placed in level 4 or above, you are eligible to apply for conditional admission to master’s programs on the list. Our advisers will work with you to create a study plan and support you in the conditional admission application when you arrive.
New students take the English Placement Examination on the first day of Orientation at the start of each term. This test includes a listening, grammar/vocabulary section, and a 30-minute essay. The teachers also monitor students very carefully during the first week of classes to be sure they are in the correct level.
To complete a level and move to the next level, you must have a B average with no grade lower than a C- in Academy courses. All students take a standardized exit test at the end of each level. Results of this test are incorporated into the final course grades for the term.
Yes. The Academy provides extensive academic advising for students who wish to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees at the University of Southern California or another college or university. Advisers will facilitate the application and transfer to American colleges and universities, including exam preparation and scheduling, personal statements and essays, interview training and more.
